Ultima: Exodus came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1989, developed by Origin Systems. It was part of that wave of early console attempts to bring complex computer role playing games to a living room audience, sitting alongside other ambitious titles that tried to translate deep systems onto a simpler machine.

You control the Avatar and a party of companions, moving screen by screen across an overworld and into towns and dungeons. Your main goal is to gather the three magic rings and stop the Exodus entity. You explore towns for clues, fight monsters in turn based combat using swords or bows, and navigate first person perspective dungeons filled with traps and secret doors. The game moves at a deliberate pace, and its difficulty comes from managing your party's resources and surviving the often unforgiving dungeons. Playing it feels like a methodical, sometimes grueling, test of your planning and persistence.
