Konami released TwinBee Da!! for the Game Boy in 1990, a time when portable shooters were still a novelty. It was part of the long running TwinBee series, bringing its colorful, cartoonish style to the small screen. You control the TwinBee ship, flying upward through waves of enemy crafts and ground installations. Your main goal is simply to survive each stage, defeating a boss at the end. The signature mechanics involve shooting and bombing enemies, but the real twist is the bell system. You shoot floating bells to change their color, each color granting a different power-up like speed boosts or more powerful shot types. You also have a limited supply of screen clearing bombs for emergencies. The game moves at a brisk pace, and the difficulty can be unforgiving with its tight spaces and dense enemy patterns.
