Turrican on the Game Boy is one of those classic side-scrollers that feels like it’s trying to do way more than the hardware should allow. You’ve got this little armored dude blasting through alien landscapes, switching between a standard gun and this wild spinning laser attack that clears whole screens. The levels are surprisingly big for a Game Boy game—lots of hidden nooks and secret power-ups if you’re willing to explore.

It’s got that old-school difficulty, too. One wrong jump or missed enemy, and you’re back to the last checkpoint. But the controls are tight, and once you get the hang of the weapon switching, it’s weirdly satisfying. Not as flashy as the console versions, but still a solid pocket-sized action fix.
