Man, Turok 3 on the N64 still holds up as one of the weirder, darker FPS games from that era. You start off picking between two siblings—Josephine’s more stealthy with a sniper rifle, while Danielle’s all about brute force with a shotgun. I went with Danielle first because, well, explosions.
The levels are this weird mix of sci-fi corridors and jungle ruins, with enemies that look like they crawled out of a nightmare. The foggy N64 graphics actually add to the creepy vibe. And yeah, the controls feel a little stiff now, but back then, blowing up mutants with the cerebral bore (a gun that drills into skulls, because of course) was pure chaotic fun.
It’s not perfect—some textures are rough, and the platforming bits can be janky—but there’s something about the atmosphere that sticks with you. If you’re into late-90s FPS weirdness, this one’s a trip.
