About Tsuppari Wars (japan)
Tsuppari Wars came out in 1987 for the Nintendo Entertainment System, developed and published by Jaleco. It was part of that wave of NES games that experimented with different genres, a side-scrolling action game with a schoolyard brawl theme that felt distinct from the platformers and shooters of the time.
You control a student who must fight through rival schools to rescue a kidnapped friend. The main objective is to clear each stage by defeating all the enemy students on screen. Your primary move is a two-handed shove, the "tsuppari" of the title, which you use to push enemies off platforms or into hazards. The game progresses screen by screen, and you can also pick up items like books to throw. The pacing is fast and the difficulty is steep, with aggressive enemies that quickly surround you. It feels like a chaotic, relentless scrap where a single mistimed push can send you back to the start.
