If you've ever tried shogi and thought, "Man, I wish this had more bite-sized puzzles," Tsume Shougi: Mondai is basically that. It's just you, a Game Boy, and a brutal lineup of shogi checkmate puzzles—no fluff, no long matches, just pure "figure out how to trap the king in X moves."

At first, the early puzzles feel manageable, almost like the game’s lulling you into a false sense of security. Then suddenly you’re staring at the screen for 20 minutes because that one piece you thought was useless? Yeah, it’s the key to everything. The AI doesn’t mess around, and neither do the solutions—every move has to count.

It’s not flashy, but if you like shogi (or even chess puzzles), this one’s weirdly satisfying to chip away at. Just don’t blame me when you lose track of time on the train ride home.
