Tsume Shougi is one of those brutally satisfying puzzle games for hardcore shogi fans. It throws you straight into checkmate scenarios—no fluff, no tutorials, just you staring down a board where you've got to finish the opponent in a set number of moves. The Game Boy version's got that classic pixelated look, and the problems start simple before ramping up into absolute brain-melters.
First few puzzles? Manageable. Then suddenly you're sweating over knight drops and pawn promotions, trying to visualize three moves ahead. The Japanese text doesn’t get in the way if you know shogi notation, but yeah, this isn’t for casuals. Perfect for grinding on a commute if you hate your brain feeling relaxed.
Still one of the cleanest ways to drill shogi tactics without setting up a physical board.
