Tsume Shougi - Kamiki Godan is one of those brutally sharp Game Boy shogi puzzle games that’ll make your brain hurt in the best way. It throws you into these tight, pre-set board situations where you’ve got to checkmate the opponent in a set number of moves—no room for error. The pieces move like traditional shogi (think chess but with promotions and drops), so if you’re new, expect to fumble at first. But once it clicks, pulling off a clean three-mate feels stupidly satisfying.
What’s cool is how it scales. Early puzzles ease you in, but later ones? Good luck. I remember getting stuck on one for days before realizing I had to sacrifice my gold general just to open a lane. Plays great on emulators too—no frills, just pure shogi agony. Perfect for quick sessions or if you hate your ego.
