About Trip World (japan)
I first played Trip World on the Game Boy back in 1992, a time when the handheld was full of simple platformers. It was developed and published by Sunsoft, a company known for a few other solid titles on the system. The game stood out for its colorful, almost pastel visuals, which were a pleasant change from the typical green-and-black aesthetic.
You control a small, round creature named Yakopoo who can walk, jump, and transform into different forms by finding specific flowers. Your main goal is to travel through each stage, defeating enemies and finding keys to unlock the exit. The exploration happens screen by screen, with each area containing hidden paths and items. One of the key mechanics is the ability to change into a balloon form to float over gaps, or a submarine form to navigate underwater sections. The pacing is generally relaxed, and the difficulty is not too punishing, making it accessible. It feels like a gentle, exploratory adventure from start to finish.
