Trax came out for the Game Boy in 1991, developed by HAL Laboratory. It was part of that early wave of portable games where you got a complete, self contained experience on a small cartridge. You controlled a small tank, navigating through a series of overhead view stages.

Your main goal is to destroy the enemy mothership by fighting through its defensive forces. You drive your tank across single screen areas, shooting enemy vehicles and structures. You collect power ups to upgrade your main cannon and gain secondary weapons, like a three way shot or homing missiles. The game scrolls to a new screen once you clear all enemies in the current one. The pacing is steady, but the challenge increases as you face more aggressive enemy patterns and tougher bosses.
