About Track Meet
Track Meet was one of the launch titles for the original Game Boy in 1989, developed by Nintendo. It arrived at a time when portable gaming was a novelty, and this cartridge was part of that first wave of black and white experiences. You got a few different athletic events in one package, which was a common approach for sports games on the system.
You control a runner in a series of Olympic style events. Your main objective is to win each race by tapping the A and B buttons as fast as you can. The core mechanic is this rapid alternating button press to build up your runner's speed. You also need to time your jumps over hurdles in the 110 meter hurdles event, or you will crash and lose momentum. The game moves quickly, and the difficulty comes from maintaining your button mashing rhythm without faltering. It feels like a frantic test of your thumb endurance more than a strategic contest.
