About Track & Field
Track & Field came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1987, developed by Konami. It was one of those games that felt right at home on the NES, a straightforward sports title you could pop in for a quick session without a complicated story or setup.
You control an athlete competing in a series of Olympic style events. The main objective is to win gold medals by outperforming the computer opponents across different disciplines. The signature mechanics involve a lot of button mashing; for the running events, you rapidly alternate pressing the A and B buttons to build speed, and then hit a third button at the right moment to launch into a jump or throw. The events are short and the pacing is fast, but the difficulty ramps up quickly, demanding precise timing and endurance for your thumbs. It feels like a genuine test of both coordination and sheer physical effort on the controller.
