About Toy Story
I remember picking up Toy Story on the Game Boy back in 1996. It was developed by Tiertex Design Studios, one of many licensed games trying to capture the movie's magic on the small screen. In that era, a portable Toy Story game felt like a novelty, a chance to take Woody and Buzz on the go, even if the hardware had its clear limitations.
You control Woody through a series of side scrolling levels, jumping on platforms and avoiding obstacles. The main goal is to navigate from one end of the stage to the other, often while being chased by Sid's mutant toys or other hazards. Key mechanics include using a pull string to swing across gaps and collecting Andy's name tags for extra lives. The game moves at a brisk pace, and the difficulty can be unforgiving, with precise jumps required to progress. Playing it feels like a constant, frantic scramble to stay one step ahead of the next threat.
