About Total Recall
Total Recall came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1990, developed by Interplay Entertainment. It was part of that wave of movie tie-in games on the NES, where you often got an action platformer based on a film's premise rather than a direct adaptation.
You control construction worker Douglas Quaid, moving screen by screen through side-scrolling levels set on Earth and Mars. Your main goal is to fight through waves of enemy agents to uncover the conspiracy behind your implanted memories. Signature mechanics include using a punch and jump kick for close combat, picking up and using enemy guns for ranged attacks, and navigating maze-like stages that require some exploration. The game moves at a brisk pace and the difficulty is considerable, with aggressive enemies and limited continues. Playing it feels like a relentless scramble for survival against overwhelming odds.
