About Torpedo Range (japan)
Torpedo Range was released for the Game Boy in 1990 by the developer Pack-In-Video. It arrived during a period when the handheld was filling its library with various simulation and strategy titles, offering a more methodical alternative to the platformers and action games that dominated the system.
You command a submarine on a strategic world map, moving from sector to sector to engage enemy fleets. Your primary objective is to conquer the entire globe by winning a series of turn based naval battles. The core gameplay shifts between the strategic map, where you position your sub and manage resources, and the tactical battle screen. In combat, you maneuver your submarine in real time, carefully calculating the trajectory and timing of your torpedoes to hit moving enemy ships while dodging their depth charges. The pacing is deliberate, demanding patience and precision over quick reflexes, and the difficulty comes from managing your limited torpedo supply and the increasingly aggressive enemy patrols. It feels like a tense game of cat and mouse played out on a miniature scale.
