Top Gun on the NES is one of those games that looks way cooler than it actually is—don’t get me wrong, I still love it, but man, landing that F-14 on the carrier is brutal. You’re basically Maverick, blasting through waves of enemy jets and dodging missiles while the chiptune version of "Danger Zone" plays in your head (sadly not actually in the game).
The controls take some getting used to—your plane feels heavy, and the throttle mechanic is weirdly touchy. But once you get the hang of it, weaving through canyon runs and taking down MiGs with your limited ammo is pretty satisfying. Just don’t expect the movie’s drama; it’s pure arcade-style dogfighting with a serious '80s vibe.
Oh, and good luck with that landing sequence. I swear, it’s harder than the actual missions.
