Top Gun on NES is one of those games that looks way cooler than it actually is—don’t get me wrong, flying an F-14 as Maverick sounds awesome, but the controls are… rough. You’re basically wrestling with the plane just to land it on the carrier (good luck with that). The missions are short bursts of dogfighting and bombing runs, and the music’s got that classic Konami energy, but man, that landing sequence will test your patience. Still, if you grew up with it, there’s some nostalgia in those pixelated skies.
It’s definitely a product of its time—just don’t expect a smooth flight.
