About Top Gun (europe)
Top Gun for the NES came out in 1987 from Konami. It was one of many movie tie-in games from that period, and it tried to capture the feeling of being a naval aviator on the platform.
You control Maverick from the cockpit of an F-14 Tomcat. Your main goal is to complete a set of missions, which involve dogfighting enemy jets and bombing ground targets. Two key mechanics are the mid-air refueling, where you have to carefully match speed with a tanker plane, and the notoriously difficult aircraft carrier landings that require precise speed and altitude control. The game moves at a fast pace, and the difficulty is unforgiving, especially during the landing sequences. It feels tense and demanding, where a single mistake can end your mission abruptly.
