Top Gun: The Second Mission is one of those NES games that makes you feel like a total badass—until you crash into the ocean five seconds later. You're in the cockpit of an F-14, dodging missiles and trying to line up shots on enemy jets that just will not sit still. The controls take some getting used to (good luck landing on that carrier without practice), but once you get the hang of it, weaving through flak and nailing tight turns feels surprisingly satisfying.
It’s not the deepest flight sim—you mostly just blast everything in sight while avoiding the same three enemy types—but there’s something weirdly addictive about the chunky pixel explosions and that classic NES soundtrack blaring in the background. If you’ve played 1943, you’ll recognize the same kind of arcade-y, no-frills dogfighting here. Just don’t expect realism—your jet handles more like a spaceship than an actual plane.
Controls: Arrow keys to move, Z/X for firing, and good luck figuring out the refueling minigame without a manual. You’ll need it.
