Top Gear Rally on N64 is one of those racers that feels way ahead of its time. You start off picking from a handful of cars—nothing crazy, but they handle differently enough that you’ll probably restart the first race a few times just to test them. The tracks? Surprisingly varied, from tight jungle paths to wide-open desert stretches, and the weather actually changes how you drive. Wet asphalt turns your car into a sliding mess if you’re not careful.
What really sticks with me is the customization. You can tweak your ride’s stats between races, and it actually matters—throw too much power into a lightweight frame, and good luck keeping it on the road. The physics aren’t full-on sim, but they’re weighty enough that you can’t just floor it the whole time. It’s got that ‘90s arcade vibe with just enough realism to keep you sweating on the last lap.
Still holds up if you’re into retro racers with personality.
