Top Gear Rally 2 on N64 is one of those racers that feels way better than it looks. Yeah, the graphics are blocky by today’s standards, but the handling’s surprisingly tight—you can actually feel the difference between loose gravel and tarmac. The weather’s the real star though; one minute you’re tearing through a desert, next thing rain’s pouring down and your tires are sliding everywhere.
They packed in a ton of cars, from nimble little hatchbacks to beefy rally monsters. Took me a while to settle on the Subaru—just felt right sliding around corners. And the tracks? Some have these brutal shortcuts hidden behind bushes that’ll either save your race or send you flying off a cliff. Still mad about that one time in Iceland.
If you’re into arcade-style rally games with just enough realism to keep you on your toes, this one’s a blast. Just don’t blame me when you spend an hour tweaking your suspension settings instead of actually racing.
