Top Gear Overdrive on N64 is one of those racers that feels like it was made for late-night couch multiplayer. The cars handle like they’re on rails—super arcadey, but in a good way—and the tracks have just enough twists to keep you slamming into walls if you’re not careful. First time I played, I picked the red sports car thinking it’d be the fastest, only to realize halfway through that I couldn’t take a turn without spinning out.
What I love is how the weather actually changes how you drive. Rain turns the track into a slip-and-slide, and night races have this weird, moody glow under the streetlights. And yeah, you can tweak your car’s stats, but half the fun is just seeing how long you can drift around corners before wiping out spectacularly.
It’s not the deepest racer out there, but it’s got that classic ‘90s charm—bright colors, cheesy techno soundtrack, and just the right amount of chaos when you’ve got three friends yelling at the screen.
