Tommy Thunder is one of those lost N64 prototypes that makes you wonder what could’ve been. You play as this cocky treasure hunter—picture Indiana Jones with more ’90s attitude—shooting, jumping, and occasionally faceplanting into traps across jungles and ruins. The controls feel a little stiff at first (hey, it’s a prototype), but once you get the hang of swinging that whip to grab ledges, it clicks.
What’s cool is how the levels mix platforming with chaotic shootouts. One minute you’re dodging rolling boulders, the next you’re blasting weird lizard-men with a rapid-fire crossbow. The graphics are surprisingly vibrant for an unfinished game—lots of bright greens and oranges that pop on the N64’s blurry textures. Soundtrack’s got that classic adventure vibe too, all trumpets and percussion.
It’s rough around the edges, but there’s charm in the jank. If you dig obscure retro stuff, this one’s a neat time capsule.
