Tombs & Treasures came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1989, published by Infocom. It was part of that era on the NES where you saw a lot of games trying to blend different genres, mixing adventure with role playing elements. It didn't have the same immediate recognition as some other titles, but it found its own space.

You control a young boy leading a small team through ancient Mayan ruins. Your main goal is to explore these temples screen by screen, solving environmental puzzles to progress deeper. The core of the game involves using a set of picture based commands like "Push" or "Wash" to interact with objects, often requiring you to find a specific item in one area to unlock a path in another. You also manage two other characters, a girl with musical talent and a strong man named Jose, using their unique skills to overcome specific obstacles. The pacing is deliberate, and the puzzles can be difficult, demanding careful observation of your surroundings. Light turn based combat occurs occasionally against demons, where you must remember to equip your sword from the inventory before selecting the "Fight" command. Playing it feels like a slow, thoughtful excavation of a forgotten place.
