Tokisora Senshi Turok (J) is one of those N64 action games that feels like it got lost in translation—in a good way. You start off in this dense jungle with a bow that somehow feels way more satisfying to use than it should, picking off lizard warriors before they even see you. The levels are huge for an N64 title, with these weirdly pretty fog effects that hide how far the draw distance actually goes.
Combat’s a mix of clunky and chaotic—you’ll fumble with the controller at first, but once you get the hang of strafing while unloading a shotgun into a dinosaur’s face, it clicks. The Japanese version has some minor differences, like slightly tweaked enemy placements, but nothing game-changing. Just don’t expect the story to make much sense unless your kanji is on point.
It’s definitely a product of its time, but there’s something charming about how aggressively ’90s it all feels.
