About To The Earth
To The Earth came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1990, developed and published by Nintendo. It was part of that wave of NES games that tried something different with the hardware, in this case using the Zapper light gun.
You control a spaceship from a first person perspective, looking down the sights of your Zapper. Your main objective is to defend Earth by shooting down incoming asteroids and alien ships before they hit the planet. The signature mechanics are all built around the light gun; you aim and fire directly at the screen, the targets break apart when hit, and you have a limited supply of missiles for tougher enemies. The pacing is relentless, with objects flying toward you from all directions, and the difficulty ramps up quickly as the screen gets more crowded. It feels like a frantic test of your aim and reflexes under pressure.
