About Thunderbirds
I first played Thunderbirds on the Nintendo Entertainment System back in 1990. It was published by Activision, and it felt like a lot of other licensed games from that era, trying to capture the spirit of a TV show within the NES's limitations. You could tell it was part of that wave of games based on popular properties, where the connection to the source material was a big part of the appeal.
In the game, you control the members of International Rescue, switching between them to complete various missions. Your main objective is to stop the Hood's schemes, which involves navigating through side-scrolling levels and top-down vehicle sections. The signature mechanics include piloting different Thunderbird machines, like Thunderbird 2 to deploy equipment, and managing your agents to solve specific environmental puzzles. The pacing is methodical, and the difficulty can be unforgiving, often requiring precise timing and careful resource management. It feels like a slow, deliberate puzzle where a single mistake can force you to start a section over again.
