Play Thunder & Lightning Online

Thunder & Lightning came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1990, published by Romstar. It was part of that wave of NES games that took a simple, established formula and tried to build a whole game around it. You saw a lot of that in the late 80s and early 90s, where developers would take a core arcade idea and expand it for the home console.

You control a paddle at the bottom of the screen, deflecting a ball to break all the bricks above. The main goal is to clear each stage of its blocks before you run out of lives. A couple of things set it apart: power-ups fall from broken bricks, which can change your paddle's size or give you multiple balls at once. The game also introduces enemy characters that move around the playfield, trying to intercept your ball or disrupt your rhythm. The pacing is fast, and the difficulty ramps up quickly as the stages get more complex. It feels like a constant, frantic scramble to keep the ball in play while you manage the chaos.
