About Thexder (japan)
Thexder came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1985, developed by Game Arts. It was part of that wave of early NES titles that felt distinctly different from the arcade ports, offering a longer, more methodical challenge. You control a large robot, also named Thexder, who is trapped inside a sprawling alien complex.
Your main objective is to fight through sixteen maze-like levels to find and destroy the central computer core. The robot can walk and fire a laser, but its key feature is the ability to transform into a small, agile jet. You switch forms constantly; the jet is fast and can fly over obstacles, but it has limited energy and a weaker weapon. Each screen is a self-contained room, and you explore them one by one, searching for the exit while battling drones and turrets. The game is notoriously difficult, with energy draining steadily even when you are not taking damage. Managing your transformation and navigating the tight, enemy-filled corridors requires careful planning. Playing Thexder feels like a constant, tense struggle against the environment and your own dwindling resources.
