About The Rocketeer
The Rocketeer on the NES came out in 1991 from Bandai, a time when movie tie-in games were common. It was based on the film, but it felt like its own thing, a side story you played through on the console.
You control Cliff Secord, the Rocketeer, and your main goal is to rescue your kidnapped girlfriend Jenny. The game mixes side-scrolling platforming with shooter sections where you fly. You run and jump through levels, using a punch to fight enemies like paratroopers and armored vehicles. In the flying stages, you control the rocket pack, dodging obstacles and shooting down enemy planes. The pacing is fast, and the difficulty can be unforgiving, with precise jumps and enemy patterns to learn. Playing it feels like a challenging race against the clock to complete your mission.
