About The Punisher
I remember picking up The Punisher on the NES back in 1990. It was developed by Beam Software, and it felt like another one of those comic book action games that were common at the time. You controlled Frank Castle, the Punisher, on a mission to take down a massive crime syndicate.
You move through levels screen by screen, using a machine gun, grenades, and rockets to clear out waves of thugs. The main goal is straightforward: fight from the start of a stage to the end, defeat the boss, and move on. The pacing is relentless, with enemies constantly spawning, and the difficulty can be punishing if you run out of ammo or make a wrong move. Playing it feels like a tense, methodical march through enemy territory.
