Okay, so Link's Awakening on Game Boy is this weird little Zelda game where nothing makes sense in the best way. You wake up on Koholint Island after a shipwreck, and immediately everything feels... off. The owl won’t shut up, the villagers say cryptic stuff, and even the dungeons have this dreamlike vibe where you half-expect to trip over a talking fish.
It’s got all the classic Zelda stuff—sword swinging, puzzle-solving, secret seashells hidden in dumb places—but with this surreal twist that makes it stand out. The trading quest chain is ridiculous (why does everyone want a banana?), and the music slaps harder than it has any right to on a Game Boy. Also, good luck not getting the Ballad of the Wind Fish stuck in your head for weeks.
It’s shorter than other Zelda games, but that just means every moment feels packed with charm. You’ll finish it in a weekend and then immediately want to replay it.
