Okay, so The Last Ninja is this weirdly cool NES game where you play as—you guessed it—the last ninja alive, sneaking through 80s New York like some kind of shadowy vigilante. The streets are packed with gangsters who clearly didn’t get the memo that picking fights with a ninja is a terrible idea.
At first, the controls feel a little stiff (it is an NES game), but once you get the hang of flipping between shurikens and sword slashes, it’s satisfying to clear out rooms without getting swarmed. The levels get sneakier too—one minute you’re dodging bullets in an alley, the next you’re figuring out how to climb a skyscraper without getting spotted.
And yeah, the graphics are blocky, but there’s something charming about the way your ninja just vibes through this neon-lit urban jungle. If you’re into retro action games with a side of cheese, this one’s a solid time-killer.
- Move: Arrow keys
- Attack: Z (sword), X (shuriken)
- Jump: C (timing matters—land wrong and you’ll eat a punch)
Fair warning: the final boss is basically a tank with legs, so maybe save some shurikens.
