About Tetris (world) (rev A)
I first played Tetris on the Game Boy in 1989, a version published by Nintendo. It was one of the games that came bundled with the system, and for many of us, it defined what that little gray brick could do. In an era full of side scrolling adventures and space shooters, this was something completely different; a quiet, thoughtful challenge you could take anywhere.
You control a sequence of geometric shapes, called tetrominoes, as they fall from the top of the screen. Your job is to rotate and shift them to form solid horizontal lines without any gaps. When you complete a line, it vanishes, and you earn points. The core mechanics are the rotation of the pieces and the quick lateral movement to slot them into place. The game starts slowly, but the pace steadily increases, demanding faster decisions as the blocks pile up. The feeling of clearing four lines at once with a single, well placed I piece is a small, perfect victory. Playing it is a constant, satisfying negotiation between order and chaos.
