I first played Tetris Plus on the Game Boy in 1996, a time when puzzle games were a staple of the handheld. It was published by Natsume, and it felt like a natural evolution of the formula rather than a complete reinvention. The game arrived when players were already deeply familiar with stacking blocks, but it offered a few new ideas to keep things interesting.

You control the falling tetrominoes, rotating and shifting them to create solid lines that vanish. The main objective is to clear lines to progress through a series of stages. Two mechanics define the experience: a Puzzle Mode where you clear blocks to guide a little explorer to the bottom of the screen, and a Vs. Computer Mode that pits you against an AI opponent. The pacing starts relaxed but can become frantic as the blocks fall faster. It feels like a thoughtful race against the clock, especially when you are trying to save the explorer from being crushed.
