About Tetris
I first played Tetris on the Game Boy in 1989, the same year Nintendo released the handheld. It was published by Nintendo, and it quickly became the game you saw everywhere, bundled with the system itself. In an era defined by portable adventures and simple, effective gameplay, Tetris was the perfect companion for the gray brick console and its monochrome screen.
You control a series of geometric shapes, called Tetriminos, as they fall from the top of the screen. Your objective is to rotate and shift these pieces to form solid horizontal lines without any gaps. When you complete a line, it vanishes, and you earn points. The game's signature mechanics are the rotation of the pieces and the way completed lines disappear, which constantly changes the landscape of the playfield. The pace starts slow but relentlessly speeds up, forcing you to make faster decisions as the stack of blocks climbs higher. Clearing several lines at once with a single piece provides a small, satisfying rush of relief amidst the growing pressure. It feels like a constant, engaging puzzle where you are always just one mistake away from the top.
