About Tengentetris
Tengen, a division of Atari Games, released its unlicensed Tetris cartridge for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1989. This version appeared before Nintendo's own official Tetris and was quickly pulled from shelves due to licensing disputes. It existed as a brief, contentious alternative during the peak years of the NES.
You control the falling tetromino shapes, rotating and shifting them to create solid horizontal lines. The main objective is to clear these lines to prevent the block pile from reaching the top of the screen. Its signature mechanics include a two-player competitive mode where you can send garbage lines to your opponent's playfield, and a cooperative mode where you work together to clear a shared goal. The game starts at a brisk pace and the difficulty escalates steadily, demanding quicker decisions as the shapes plummet faster. Playing it feels like a direct, unfiltered contest against both the game's speed and another person.
