About Tekkyu Fight! - The Great Battle Gaiden (japan)
I picked up Tekkyu Fight! The Great Battle Gaiden for my Game Boy back in 1994. It was part of that wave of Japanese-only releases that never made it overseas, developed by Banpresto. For a Game Boy title from that era, it fit right in with the portable action games we were all carrying around in our pockets.
You control a super-deformed SD character, navigating through side-scrolling stages. Your main goal is to fight through waves of enemies, screen by screen, to reach the stage boss. The combat is simple; you have a basic attack and a screen-clearing special move that consumes a bit of health. You also collect power-ups that temporarily change your character's form and attacks. The pacing is brisk, and the difficulty can spike unexpectedly, especially during boss encounters. It feels like a quick, chaotic brawl from start to finish.
