About Taz-mania (usa, Europe)
I remember picking up Taz-Mania for the Game Boy back in 1992. It was developed by Recreational Brainware and published by THQ, one of those many licensed games based on a cartoon that were common on the system. It fit right in with the platformers of that era, a straightforward action game you could play in short bursts.
You control the Tasmanian Devil, Taz, through a series of side scrolling levels. Your main goal is to navigate from the start to the exit, which often involves dealing with various enemies and environmental obstacles. Your primary method of attack is spinning into a whirlwind; this destroys most foes and can also break certain blocks. You also collect carrots scattered throughout the stages, and you need to manage a health bar that depletes when you take hits. The game moves at a quick pace and can be quite challenging, with some precise platforming required to avoid pitfalls and enemies. It feels like a frantic dash through a cartoon world, where constant spinning is your only real defense.
