About Taz-mania (europe)
I picked up Taz-Mania for the Game Boy back in 1992. It was developed by Recreational Brainware, a name you'd see on a few other cartridges from that era. On a system full of platformers, this one stood out simply because you were controlling the Tasmanian Devil himself, a character I knew from Saturday morning cartoons.
You play as Taz, navigating through side scrolling levels. Your main objective is to rescue your kidnapped family members from various villains. Your primary attack is spinning like a tornado, which you use to defeat enemies and break through certain obstacles. The game involves a lot of collecting, specifically gathering vegetables to restore health and finding keys to unlock new areas. The pacing is fairly quick, and the difficulty can be unforgiving with precise platforming required. It feels like a frantic dash through a cartoon world, where your spinning is both your greatest weapon and your only real defense.
