About Target Renegade
Target Renegade came out on the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1988, published by Ocean Software. It was part of that wave of side-scrolling brawlers that filled the NES library in the late 80s, a time when you could find a new martial arts adventure on the shelf almost every month.
You control a lone fighter navigating the city streets, moving screen by screen to hunt down the gang that killed your brother. Your main objective is to fight through five levels of urban environments, from subways to warehouses, clearing each area of thugs before you can proceed. Signature mechanics include picking up weapons like knives and chains dropped by defeated enemies, and the ability to perform a variety of punches, kicks, and jump kicks. The pacing is relentless, with enemies swarming from both sides of the screen, and the difficulty is steep, demanding quick reflexes and careful positioning. It feels like a desperate, non-stop street brawl where one wrong move can end your run.
