About Tao (japan)
Sunsoft released Tao in Japan for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1989. It was one of many action-adventure titles from that period, a game that arrived late in the NES lifecycle without much fanfare outside its home country. You would not have found it on many American rental store shelves, which makes stumbling upon it today an interesting discovery.
You control a young warrior navigating a world presented screen by screen. Your main goal is to explore dungeons and defeat the evil threatening the land. You use a sword for close combat and a bow for attacking enemies from a distance, switching between them as the situation demands. A key part of the game involves finding specific items, like pieces of a sacred statue, to unlock new areas and progress. The pacing is deliberate, and the difficulty can be unforgiving, demanding careful observation of enemy patterns. Moving through its quiet, interconnected world creates a feeling of solitary exploration.
