About Takahashi Meijin No Bouken Jima (japan)
Hudson Soft released Takahashi Meijin no Bouken Jima for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1986. It was part of that early wave of NES games that established a certain style of action adventure. The game is known in the west as Adventure Island, but this original Japanese version has its own distinct flavor and some different level designs.
You control Master Higgins, a character based on a real Hudson Soft employee known for his rapid button pressing. Your goal is to rescue your girlfriend Tina from the evil island king. You run and jump across scrolling stages, using a stone axe to smash enemies and break open eggs that contain items like fruit for points or a skateboard for a temporary speed boost. The game is structured as a series of linear, side scrolling levels with a boss fight at the end of each world. The pacing is relentless; you have a constantly depleting health meter that only refills with fruit, which adds a persistent urgency to your movements. It feels like a race against your own stamina as much as the enemies on screen.
