About Taito Chase H.q. (japan)
I first played Taito Chase H.Q. on the Nintendo Entertainment System after it came out in 1989. Taito Corporation, the developer, brought their arcade racing game to the home console, and it was one of those straightforward action titles that fit right into the late 80s NES library. You did not get an open world or a deep story; you got a clear objective and a timer counting down.
You control a police officer driving a sports car, and your job is to chase down and stop criminal vehicles before they escape. The main action involves speeding through traffic, ramming the suspect's car repeatedly until its health bar depletes, and then making an arrest. Signature mechanics include a turbo boost for sudden bursts of speed and a damage meter for your own car that forces you to avoid too many collisions. The game moves quickly, and the difficulty comes from navigating busy roads while keeping pressure on your target. It feels urgent and direct, like a short, high speed pursuit you have to win through aggressive driving.
