Tail 'Gator is one of those weird little Game Boy platformers that somehow sticks with you. You play as a tiny alligator—Charly, I think?—who swings his tail like a wrecking ball to smash through enemies and blocks. The controls feel a little stiff at first, but once you get the rhythm down, it’s oddly satisfying to just bulldoze your way through levels.
It’s got that classic early ‘90s Natsume charm—bright colors (for a Game Boy, anyway), chunky sprites, and these weirdly catchy tunes. Some of the jumps are brutal if you don’t time them right, and the later stages get surprisingly mean with the enemy placement. Still, there’s something about the simplicity of it that makes it hard to put down once you start.
Definitely a hidden gem if you’re into retro platformers that don’t take themselves too seriously.
