About Tail Gator
Tail Gator came out for the Game Boy in 1991, developed by Natsume. It was part of that wave of early portable games where developers were figuring out what worked on the small screen. You don't hear about it as much as some other titles from that year, but it has its own quiet spot in the library.
You control a little green alligator named Gator. Your main goal is to rescue your friend, a monkey, who has been kidnapped. The game plays out screen by screen; you move to the edge of one screen, and it flips to the next. Your primary attack is a tail whip, which you use to defeat the various enemies that crawl and fly around. You also collect fruit for points, and there are hidden items to find if you hit certain blocks. The pacing is methodical, and the difficulty can be surprisingly sharp in later stages, demanding careful movement. It feels like a straightforward, sometimes challenging quest from a simpler era of handheld gaming.
