Super Smash Bros. on N64 is where it all started—that chaotic, hilarious mess of Nintendo characters beating the stuffing out of each other. You pick someone like Mario or Pikachu, jump into a stage that’s basically a floating death trap, and try to knock everyone else off-screen. The controls are simple (just smash buttons and hope for the best), but there’s a weird depth to it once you realize how different each character feels.
Playing with friends is where it really shines—four players, one couch, and way too much yelling when someone lands a lucky Falcon Punch. The stages are ridiculous too, like Hyrule Castle with its tornadoes or Dream Land’s wind that messes up your jumps. It’s janky by today’s standards, but that’s part of the charm. If you’ve ever wanted to see Link and Kirby duke it out while a giant Donkey Kong head watches, this is your game.
