Super Robot Spirits is one of those N64 games that flew under the radar but absolutely nailed giant robot brawls. You pick from a roster of mechs—some bulky tanks, others speedy flyers—and just wreck each other in destructible arenas. The controls are simple (smash buttons, pull off flashy combos), but there’s a weirdly satisfying rhythm to dodging laser beams and landing a piledriver on some poor bot’s head.
Graphically, it’s peak late-90s N64: chunky polygons, but the explosions and special moves still have charm. My personal favorite? The arena that’s just a floating platform over a bottomless pit—one well-timed shove and your opponent’s scrap metal. It’s not deep, but it’s the kind of game you fire up when you want to turn your brain off and punch a robot into the sun.
