Super Real Baseball '88 is one of those NES baseball games that feels a little rough around the edges at first—until you realize it’s actually got some depth. The pitching mechanics are weirdly satisfying once you get the hang of them, and the fielding has this janky charm where outfielders sometimes take these comically long routes to catch fly balls.
It’s definitely a product of its time—the sprites are tiny, and the batting camera angle takes some getting used to—but there’s something about the way the runners slide into bases or how the crowd cheers in that classic 8-bit way that just works. If you’re into retro sports games, this one’s a fun little time capsule from the Famicom era.
