Super Momotarou Dentetsu II is one of those weirdly addictive board game hybrids where you buy up train routes and try to bankrupt your friends. It’s got that classic Japanese board game vibe—bright colors, simple mechanics, and just enough randomness to keep things chaotic. You’re basically rolling dice, snatching up properties, and occasionally getting screwed over by event cards (because of course there are event cards).
First time I played, I thought it’d be a snooze, but the little train sprites and the way the AI players get weirdly aggressive about certain routes won me over. It’s not as deep as the Super Famicom version, but for a Game Boy port, it’s surprisingly solid. Just don’t expect a tutorial—you’ll figure it out after a round or two of accidentally buying the worst stations.
If you’ve ever lost hours to Monopoly or Fortune Street, this might scratch that same itch.
