Super Dodge Ball came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1987, developed by Technos Japan. It was part of that era where simple concepts were turned into surprisingly deep games, and it stood out for taking a schoolyard game and making it feel like a sport with real stakes.

You control a team of six players in a dodgeball match. Three teammates are on the main court, while the other three are positioned on the sidelines around your opponent's half. Your main goal is to defeat all three of the opposing team's court players by hitting them with the ball to deplete their health. You move your players with the D-pad, pass the ball with the A button, and throw attacks with B. Two key mechanics define the action: you can perform a Power Shot by running a short distance before throwing, which makes the ball faster and harder to catch, and you can also jump and throw for an aerial Power Shot. The pacing is fast, and the difficulty comes from anticipating your opponent's throws and timing your catches perfectly. It feels chaotic and satisfying when you land a powerful throw that sends an opponent flying off the screen.
